Construction has started at phase one of China’s Jinqimen NPP in Zhejiang Province with a ground-breaking ceremony, according to China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). Six Hualong One units are planned for the Jinqimen site in Fan'Ao Town, Xiangshan, Ningbo. Construction of the first two units (phase one) was approved by China's State Council in December 2023.
The previous June, the Ministry of Ecology & Environment accepted the environmental impact assessment document for units 1&2. Construction is expected to take 60 months, with an interval of 10 months between the units. Unit 1 is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2028. The two units have been included in the national plan and have undergone a comprehensive safety assessment review, CNNC said.
CNNC Zhejiang Energy Co Ltd is responsible for project investment, construction and operations management of the new plant, which, when completed, will have an installed capacity of some 7.2 GWe.
