EDF Energy says it is preparing for Andrew Spurr, currently chief technical officer of British Energy to takeover from Bill Coley as chief executive of the company in July.

In a statement EDF said that the transition of responsibilities will be completed through a managed succession process over the coming months.

Vincent de Rivaz, Chief executive, EDF Energy, said: “A key part of the integration of EDF Energy and British Energy is related to the preparation of Bill Coley’s succession. I am pleased to announce that I have asked Dr Andrew Spurr to prepare himself to be the new managing director of Existing Nuclear, taking over after an appropriate handover period.”

Until the effective date of the handover, Bill Coley, who became head of British Energy four years ago will continue with his current responsibilities. He said: “The integration process is proceeding very well and I know that under Andy’s leadership, the Existing Nuclear operation will play a key role in EDF Energy and in the UK’s energy future.”
