Baden-Wurttemberg seeks plant life extension

25 January 2006

Gunther Oettinger, president of Germany’s Baden-Wurttemberg state, is reportedly in favour of a life extension for the EnBW Neckarwestheim unit 1 (GKN 1).

EnBW hopes to increase the lifespan of the 840MWe PWR by transferring production allocations from its 1395MWe unit 2 reactor at the same site.

Oettinger told local media: "I believe it is right and important to make such an application in the interest of safe energy supply and safeguarding jobs."
