Russia's Atomenergomash (AEM) has won the tender for the supply of two reactors and molten core catchers for units 1&2 of the Ostrovets nuclear power plant in Belarus.
The contract covers the reactor vessels, upper blocks, reactor shafts, reflection shields, block of protective pipes, and other equipment, AEM said.
The equipment is expected to be delivered between 2013 and 2017.
Manufacturing of the components will take place at the Volgodonsk Branch of AEM-Technologies, which is also responsible for supplying the reactor for Baltic NPP in 2014.
That branch has also produced two core catchers for Novovoronezh NPP-2 and one for the Baltic NPP. A second core catcher for Baltic NPP is currently under production and due to be shipped to the station this year, according to AEM, the power-plant engineering division of Russian state nuclear corporation, Rosatom.
Last month, Russian contractor NIAEP announced that site preparation work for Ostrovets was proceeding "several months ahead of schedule." The two units of the new Belarusian NPP are expected to start construction in 2013 and 2014, and come online in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
