AREVA wins nuclear fuel contract for three Exelon plants

22 April 2013

AREVA has signed a contract with the US utility Exelon to provide nuclear fuel fabrication services to the Dresden and Quad Cities nuclear power stations in Illinois, and Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania.

Beginning in 2016, AREVA will supply a "total of twelve" reloads to the four Dresden and Quad Cities units, all boiling water reactors. AREVA will supply its ATRIUM 10XM boiling water reactor fuel, which it says is designed to "improve fuel efficiency and operating flexibility."

The agreement will also see AREVA deliver six fuel reloads to the Three Mile Island unit 1 pressurized water reactor, as well continuing to supply the facility with both fuel and engineering services.

AREVA said that the fuel will be fabricated at its US facility in Richland, Washington.
