Constellation completes acquisition of stake in Texas NPP

US power utility Constellation has completed its acquisition of NRG Energy Inc’s 44% ownership stake in the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station (STP). Constellation’s stake represents approximately 1,100 megawatts of the plant’s output. Ownership transfer of the 2,645 MWe dual-unit nuclear plant located about 90 miles southwest of Houston was approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRS). This was the final regulatory approval needed before closing the deal.

Construction starts at Netherlands Multifunctional Storage Building

Construction has begun of the Multifunctional Storage Building (MOG) for low and intermediate-level waste - in Nieuwdorp, in the municipality of Borssele, in the Netherlands, the Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA - Centrale Organisatie Voor Radioactief Afval) announced.

Full financing approved for Pallas reactor

The Netherlands government will fully finance the cost of Pallas research reactor at Petten. Minister of Health, Welfare & Sport Ernst Kuipers has confirmed full financing for the construction of the reactor. The positive decision was expected. In February, the Nuclear & Radiation Protection Authority (ANVS - Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming) granted a construction licence for the reactor and Rijkswaterstaat issued the Water Act permit for the intake and discharge of cooling water.

Constellation acquires ownership stake in South Texas Project

US power company Constellation is acquiring NRG Energy’s 44% ownership stake in the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station (STPEGS). The 2,645 MWe two-unit plant is located about 90 miles southwest of Houston. The transaction is valued at $1.75bn, with an effective purchase price of $1.4bn after taking into account tax benefits to Constellation. The transaction will be financed with a combination of cash and debt. The South Texas Project is one of the newest and largest NPPs in the USA with a good track record for safety and reliability.

COVRA receives final approval for construction of new radwaste storage facility

The Netherlands Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) has granted the final permit to the Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA) for the construction of a multi-functional storage building (MOG) at Borssele, in The Netherlands.

Tractebel and NRG PALLAS support nuclear newbuild in the Netherlands

Belgium’s Tractebel (part of French energy company Engie) and Dutch research and production organisation NRG PALLAS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in support nuclear newbuild in the Netherlands. The MOU was signed at the Embassy of Belgium in The Hague on the sidelines of the Belgium - Netherlands Nuclear Summit.

Construction licence issued for Pallas reactor

The Netherlands Nuclear and Radiation Protection Authority (ANVS - Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming) has granted a construction licence for the Pallas reactor at Petten, in the municipality of Schagen. Rijkswaterstaat has also issued the Water Act permit for the intake and discharge of cooling water. This means the permit under the Environmental Law (General Provisions) Act for the construction of the buildings and cooling water pipes will also come into force.
