A network of overseas Vietnamese nuclear energy experts (VietNuc) has been launched at the Vietnamese Embassy in Paris, on the occasion of the Vietnam Science and Technology Day. The network currently brings together nearly 100 scientists and experts working at primarily French institutions including the EDF, Framatome, ANDRA and CEA as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
VietNuc focuses on three main pillars, including connecting and disseminating knowledge by gathering and developing a global network of experts working abroad; advancing nuclear technology by fostering international cooperation in the transfer of advanced technologies, linking laboratory support facilities, and developing a high-quality workforce; and supporting the development of nuclear energy in Vietnam through expert consulting and participation in activities with government agencies.
Tran Manh Hung, Chief Representative of the Vietnam Science and Technology Office in France, emphasised that the participation of intellectuals, especially overseas Vietnamese, is of great and strategic significance. VietNuc will be a bridge connecting experts and scientists with domestic partners, he noted.
This came days after Vietnam and Russia, in a joint statement, said they had agreed to sign and negotiate agreements on the construction of NPPs in Vietnam. According to a joint statement, “The two sides agreed to promptly negotiate and sign intergovernmental agreements on the construction of nuclear power plants in Vietnam, ensuring the application of advanced technology and strict compliance with regulations on nuclear and radiation safety serving socio-economic development.” Rosatom signed an inter-departmental roadmap with Vietnam for the period to 2030.
