The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said on 17 August that it has approved the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA’s) request for a 14.3% increase in the generating capacity of units 1- 3 at the Browns Ferry NPP in Alabama. The power uprate represents a gross output increase of about 155MWe for each of the three boiling water reactors. NRC said TVA plans to implement the uprates during refuelling outages in spring 2018 for unit 3, autumn 2018 for unit 1 and spring 2019 for unit 2. The units began operation in the mid-1970s.
