Specialists from the Cairo branch of Russia’s Titan 2 have completed the assembly of a tracked crane at the El Dabaa NPP, being constructed by Rosatom. The Chinese Zoomlion ZCC32000 crane, with a carrying capacity of 2000 tonnes, passed control operations and was put into operation.
The assembly and commissioning process was supervised by Zoomlion’s chief engineers. The installation was completed 25 days ahead of schedule.
The crane will be involved in key construction and installation operations unit 3 of the plant, such as installing the melt trawp and other large-sized equipment of the nuclear island. In addition, the crane will be used in the installation of tiers of the inner containment of the reactor building. Open top technology, which helps to significantly reduce construction time will be used. This allows installation of equipment through the open roof of the building.
El Dabaa NPP will comprise four units with generation III+ VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors. The NPP is being constructed in accordance with contracts that entered into force in 2017. The $30bn project is mainly financed through a $25bn Russian loan. Rosatom will supply nuclear fuel throughout the lifecycle of the plant, arrange for the training of the Egyptian personnel, and assist in the operation and maintenance of the plant for the first 10 years. The reference plant for El Dabaa is the Leningrad-II NPP. Construction of all four units is planned for completion by 2028-2029 and Egypt expects that the NPP will reach full capacity by 2030. Work is underway on all four units.
