Long-term energy demand trends in Switzerland are such that, despite the contribution from renewables and energy efficiency measures, new nuclear plants will be necessary to maintain supply security to 2035. This is the conclusion of the Swiss Federal Executive Council as set out in a new energy policy due for parliamentary debate late March.
Moritz Leuenberger, the Swiss energy minister, said that combined-cycle gas-fired plants would meet shorter-term demand.
