Canada’s L3 Mapps has signed a contract with Swiss industrial technology company ABB to help update the simulator Detroit-based DTE Energy’s single unit Fermi-2 NPP in Michigan. L3 MAPPS will modify the 120 kV switchyard portion of the simulator, in conjunction with associated changes to the switchyard itself and the ABB-supplied system that controls it. The simulator's process models will also be updated and provided with a hardware interface that will allow the plant's simulation to communicate with a replica of the switchyard's distributed control system hardware and software. All the work is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Fermi 2 is a 1,093MWe boiling water reactor, which began commercial operation in January 1988.
