Shelling has resumed in the area of Energodar and the Zaporizhia (NPP) and the ceasefire is no longer in effect, according to ZNPP Communications Director Evgeniya Yashina. “The ceasefire around the ZNPP ended with the repair of the second power line. Unfortunately, the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed shelling of the area near Energodar and the ZNPP,” she said.

She recalled that on 8 November, the Ferrosplavnaya-1 power supply line, which had been shut down since May 7, was restored. The second line, the Dneprovskaya line, which was shut down for 30 days due to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was successfully restored on October 23.

“Both lines of external power supply of the ZNPP have been put into operation after repairs but the period of silence has ended,” she told

Rosatom stated that the situation around the ZNPP is not improving. “The situation around the ZNPP is not getting easier, and the Armed Forces are shelling the Zaporozhye NPP area,” said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev. He added that Ukrainian troops are hitting the distribution devices of the Zaporizhia thermal power plant, which is connected to ZNPP.

“There are missile, artillery, and drone strikes on the residential infrastructure of Energodar, which naturally destabilises the situation. As you know, the safety of personnel is one of the key principles of IAEA security. This means that the situation is not improving,” he said.

Rosatom and the IAEA are planning to hold consultations on the ZNPP in Kaliningrad, Likhachev added. “We have another round of consultations ahead of us. With the IAEA, he told reporters. “We will, of course, raise questions about the overall safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and the specific steps we will take to coordinate with the IAEA to prevent any nuclear accidents.”

Specialists from the Radiation, Chemical & Biological (RCB) Defence Troops of the Russian Armed Forces are monitoring the situation at the ZNPP around the clock. The radiation background there corresponds to natural values, and no chemically or biologically hazardous factors have been identified,” Major General Alexey Rtishchev, Chief of the RCB Troops, said in an interview with Krasnaya Zvezda.

“The RCB troops are carrying out tasks at the nuclear facility on a permanent basis. Our combined detachment is at the station, ready to eliminate possible consequences of emergencies. In addition to its main tasks, it is monitoring the radiation situation at the station together with representatives of the IAEA” he added.
