As part of World Atomic Week, schoolchildren from all over Russia have exhibited their robotic projects during a one-day festival at the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VDNKh – Vistravka Dostizhenii Narodnovo Khozyaistva) in Moscow. The festival was supported by Rosatom’s Mechanical Engineering Division.
Students presented their own developments using artificial intelligence and machine vision. These will: optimise logistics along the Northern Sea Route; optimise equipment costs at small industrial enterprises; automate the monotonous manual labour of agricultural workers and city services; help educate schoolchildren; and deepen research in universities.
In total, about 30 projects that had previously won prestigious awards at Russian and international robotics competitions were presented at the festival. In future, most of them can be adapted to the needs of industrial enterprises, including nuclear industry companies, as well as help schoolchildren and students study fundamental sciences.
The presentations included: smart devices for creating unique coffee and fruit drinks; robot actors that had already play roles in theatres; a solution for finding lost people; a medical robot companion that will remind patients about taking medications and monitor their vital signs; and a robot teacher of sign language for children.
The project is aimed at increasing children’s interest in sciences and technology, as well as identifying children with a talent for creative thinking. Rosatom’s enterprises are implementing robotic solutions. Many of which are being tested at factories. These include the use of unmanned carts for transporting workpieces; involving robots in surfacing, welding and ultrasonic testing of equipment for NPPs, and testing of robotic cleaners.
