In the first quarter of 2019, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom plans to submit to the government a list of territories in Russia suitable for hosting small nuclear power plants, the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev told reporters.
“There are instructions from the president – not to us, but to the government – to make proposals for the placement of some reference blocks of small stations in the Russian Federation," he said. "We are now working on the assignment… I think that in the first quarter we will formulate and offer the government the possibility of deploying a small station in the Russian Federation," he said.
Likhachev noted that foreign partners were interested in the implementation of similar projects. "A number of our contractors have raised the issue of small stations – small modular stations, where specific configurations can be achieved with 50MWe or maybe in 100MWe additions. Those countries that have already reached agreements with us on large facilities are now coming back to discuss these possibilities,” he said.
