Westinghouse has released a series of photos showing the lifting and setting of the roofs for the shield buildings at the Sanmen and Haiyang AP1000s in China, which was completed towards the end of 2013.
The lift and set of the conical roofs for Sanmen and Haiyang Units 1 was carried out by the Joint Project Management Organization (JPMO), formed by a group of experts from Westinghouse, CB&I and China’s State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC).
Westinghouse and its consortium team CB&I and China’s SNPTC successfully set the shield building conical roof on Unit 1 of the Sanmen AP1000 on 23 November 2013.
The weight of the conical roof and other steel structural modules was around 780 tons.
The conical roof was set at China’s Haiyang 1 AP1000 on 15 December, in under two hours.
The Haiyang 1 AP1000 is under construction in China’s Shandong province. It is one of four AP1000 pressurized water reactors that Westinghouse and CB&I are building in China, under a landmark contract signed in 2007.
