Another shipment of Russian fuel has arrived at Hungary’s Paks NPP, the last one this year, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade Péter Szijjártó said on his Facebook page. “The last batch of nuclear fuel planned for this year has arrived at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, so we now have enough reserves to operate the plant until November 2028,” he noted.
Fuel deliveries from Russia this year “became more complicated due to the geopolitical situation and the behaviour of some EU countries, which did not grant permission,” he added, so the delivery route had to be modified several times, with the involvement of air and rail transport.
Szijjártó also posted: “Brussels wants to bring an ordinance banning Russian petroleum and natural gas from Europe. This will disable the safe energy supply of our country (and Slovakia) and lead to harsh price increases.”
He added: “Furthermore, this is a huge legal fraud, because in fact this is a sanctions measure, which can only be accepted by a unanimous vote. This is completely contrary to the European Union’s Basic Treaty, which states that energy policy is a national domain. Therefore, together with the Slovak government – immediately following the decision – we will approach the European Court of Justice with an annulment motion and we will request suspension of the decree for the duration of the court proceedings.” He posted a similar message on X.
