Swedish utility OKG has informed the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool that the fuel damage reported in the autumn will be managed and that the plant will be temporarily taken out of operation.
On 15 November 2021, Nord Pool received information about a secondary fuel damage in unit 3 of the Oskarshamn NPP that did not require any direct action. The ambition was then to remedy the fuel damage in connection with the 2022 annual audit starting on 18 April.
OKG's operations management has now decided that the fuel damage needs to be handled and therefore plans to take Oskarshamn 3 temporarily out of operation between 19 February and 27 February. The shutdown is preceded by a long period with high availability for Oskarshamn 3.
The 1450MW boiling water reactor delivered a record 11TWh of electricity in 2021.
