Westinghouse fuel for Spain’s Cofrentes

18 June 2018

Westinghouse Electric Company announced on 13 June that it had been awarded a contract to manufacture and deliver boiling water reactor fuel to Iberdrola's Confrentes nuclear power plant in Spain in 2019 and 2021.

The SVEA-96 Optima2 design fuel - which has already been used at Confrentes for over a decade - will be manufactured at Westinghouse's fuel fabrication facility in Västerås, Sweden.

Confrentes will also have the opportunity to implement TRITON11™, the latest BWR fuel innovation from Westinghouse. TRITON11 is designed to give utilities the power to enhance the fuel economy and capacity factors, Westinghouse said.
