Testing starts on OL3 instrumentation and control

2 April 2014

AREVA has started testing of the digital Instrumentation & Control (I&C) system for the Olkiluoto 3 EPR at its facility in Erlangen, Germany. Testing is expected to continue until at least the end of 2014, according to TVO.

The first test phase, which began on 1 April, includes the testing of the functions of process control I&C. The purpose of the tests is to verify the operation of I&C systems before they are delivered to the plant site in Olkiluoto, Finland.

"This is an extensive test programme which will take at least until the end of this year to complete," said TVO's OL3 project director Jouni Silvennoinen. "At this point we cannot give an exact schedule."

Following the testing operations, the I&C cabinets will be transported to Finland and installed at the Olkiluoto plant, AREVA said.

The I&C systems consist of monitoring and control systems, protection systems, I&C interfaces and field instrumentation.
