3 March 2019

China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) said on 28 February that a full-scope simulator has been installed for units 5 and 6 of the Tianwan NPP in Jiangsu province. According to CNEA, the simulator, which is a copy of the control room of Tianwan 5, had passed all acceptance tests and was commissioned on 27 February. Tianwan 5 and 6 are domestically developed CNP-1000 pressurised water reactors. Construction of unit 5 began in December 2015 and of unit 6 in September 2016. Commissioning testing of unit 5 began in mid February and will take one year to complete, Shanghai-based energy research group Nicobar said. Units 1-4 at Tainwan are Russian supplier VVER-1000 reactors and units 7 and 8 are to have Russian VVER-1200 reactors.
