Russia’s Electrochemical Plant launches new line of centrifuges

Russia’s Electrochemical Plant (ECP – part of Rosatom’s Fuel Company TVEL) has launched the fourth line of new generation gas centrifuges (GCs) in the ECP uranium enrichment shop in Zelenogorsk, (Krasnoyarsk Territory), the Siberian Federal District reported on 18 November.  

By the end of 2021, a total of five stages of the GCs will be re-equipped with new equipment. Sections of the main technological equipment with latest generation GCs were being commissioned at the ECP starting in the spring of 2019 as part of the programme to  modernise TVEL’s production facilities with the phased replacement of previous generation GCs.

“The high pace and quality of work, the regular  fulfilment of the annual task to update the gas separation equipment of the uranium enrichment shop on schedule and without interrupting the operation of neighbouring sections is associated with the wide application of the principles and tools of the Rosatom Production System at almost all stages - from dismantling outdated units to starting up sections with new GCs ", said ECP’s deputy general director for production, Rinat Asadulin.

New centrifuges are supplied to the ECP by TVEL enterprises including the Kovrov Mechanical Plant (Vladimir region) and NPO Centrotech (Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk region).

The project "Improving the efficiency of the installation and commissioning of GC units", which involves many divisions of the enterprise and contractor organisations, was highly praised at the annual call for proposals for improvement and projects for the development of the Rosatom Production System (RPS). This RPS project, which is being implemented under the leadership of ECP General Director Sergey Filimonov, took second place at the divisional stage of the competition.
