Rosatom prepares contracts for China’s Xudabao NPP

Russia state nuclear corporation Rosatom is preparing contracts for the third and fourth units of China’s Xudabao nuclear plant, Rosatom director general Alexei Likhachev said on 19 December.

"VVER-1200 will be contracted for the Xudabao facility as the third and fourth units," he noted, adding that "the construction work will be launched in the coming months”.

Likhachev recalled that contracts for construction of China’s Tianwan 7&8 had already been signed in June. “We can say that we have completed implementation of the second stage of the Tianwan project as the third unit has been handed over to the customer and the fourth unit is operating in power start-up mode. It supplies energy to the network, but still has to undergo a necessary set of tests.”

Earlier this year Russia and China signed a framework agreement on serial construction of power units for the Xudabao plant using Russian VVER-1200 reactors. The agreements also stipulate the possibility of constructing more units in the future.
