Rolls Royce to work on Hungary’s Paks II

10 January 2019

UK engineering firm Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hungary’s OT Industries, a member of the Mol Group, for joint work on the supply of emergency diesel generators and instrumentation and control systems for the new reactors planned at the Paks nuclear plant in Hungary.

Rolls-Royce, which is also working on the Hanhikivi 1 project in Finland and the Akkuyu project in Turkey, said these projects involve VVER reactors for which it is “willing to provide mission-critical systems to ensure plant safety and availability”.

Neil Parison, Strategic director of the Rolls-Royce Nuclear Sector, said that the MOU would secure the largest share of Hungarian participation.

The Paks NPP has four VVER-440 reactors with plans (Paks-II) to build two additional Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors.

Rolls Royce previously signed a letter of intent with other Hungarian-based companies on possible co-operation in the Paks II project, including with MVM OVIT in January 2018 in terms of planned collaboration in the implementation and maintenance of I&C systems.
