Reactor vessel is shipped to Novovoronezh-2

16 May 2011

Izhora Works, part of Russia’s OMZ Group, has shipped the reactor vessel for Novovoronezh-2, the reference VVER-1200 plant. It is the first RPV that has been manufactured in Russia for a new Russian nuclear power plant in the last 20 years, OMZ said in a statement.

The contract to manufacture and supply power equipment for Novovoronezh-2 was signed in 2007. It involves the production of two sets of main equipment, in particular the reactor vessel, steam generator housing and in-situ equipment, which weigh more than 3500 tons.

The VVER-1200 reactor is based on the AES-2006 plant, but includes a number of design improvements that provide enhanced security, improve technical and economic performance and increase the operating life by up to 60 years.
