Ontario Power Generation buys Caminus/ABB software

30 November 1999

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has bought a series of new software systems from Caminus and ABB Energy Information Systems. It is the first sale of the companies' energy trading and risk management software solutions, which are designed to provide the tools utilities will need in deregulated markets.

OPG is north America's fifth largest power producer and operates nuclear, hydroelectric and fossil fuel power plants. The new software is part of OPG's preparation for the deregulation of the Ontario power market, due to take place in about a year.

The Caminus / ABB systems are designed to allow web-based communication between OPG and regional systems operators.

They will also connect with Ontario's Independent Electricity Market Operator, which will manage the integrated operation of power systems in Ontario after deregulation.
