Mohovche NPP should ensure Slovak energy security

19 August 2021

Electricity consumption in Slovakia should increase over the next five years. "We anticipate increasing energy savings and efficiency, new types of consumption, as well as the development of electromobility," the Ministry of Economy said on 16 August in its regular report on security of electricity supply. “The short-term outlook for electricity consumption is affected by the expected decline in GDP generation in the national economy due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Ministry added: "Given the current schedule for the commissioning of the third and fourth units of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant, the situation will probably not require the implementation of fundamental measures to ensure safe and reliable operation of the electricity system." Within five years, ministerial officials anticipate maintaining the existing resource mix with most electricity coming from NPPs.
