Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has signed a heavy water sales contract with China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) and Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in China through a non-face-to-face video conferencing system.

The Qinshan NPP, which started commercial operation in 2002, is a heavy water reactor identical to the Wolsong nulcear power plant in Korea. KHNP will supply 80 tons of heavy water stored in the Wolsong plant to the Qinshan NPP by October 2022 under a contract for the sale of heavy water worth about KRW4 billion ($3.4m).

“The sale of heavy water is a new business model created by KHNP’s ability to operate nuclear power plants, which is different from the existing equipment and materials supply business,” said KHNP president Jeong Jae-hoon.

"KHNP will continue to advance into overseas markets by expanding its business areas to nuclear power plant and equipment exports, as well as nuclear power plant operation and construction consulting and technical support services."
