GE to provide maintenance services to Finland’s Olkiluoto nuclear plant

5 March 2020

GE announced on 4 March that it has been selected by Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) to continue providing maintenance services for Olkiluoto 1&2 in Finland for the duration of the lifetime of the reactors.

The agreement covers maintenance and services on the plant’s two steam turbines and generators to help ensure reliable operation of the facility until 2038.

GE Steam Power will also manufacture and install a GTD water-cooled generator rotor to help extend the operating life of the generator and support capacity increases.

GE said it will perform annual maintenance inspections on the steam turbine and generator, and provide engineering and onsite outage support.

The new generator is scheduled to be delivered and installed at the Olkiluoto nuclear plant in 2023 during the station’s annual outage.

GE’s has been supporting Finland's Olkiluoto nuclear plant since it started operating in 1978, and with service agreements since 2000.

In Finland, beyond Olkiluoto, GE is also supplying the conventional island for the 1200MW Hanhikivi nuclear power plant being built by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, which is supplying a VVER unit.

The Hanhikivi plant will be equipped with GE’s Arabelle steam turbine.
