1 March 2022

First concrete was poured on 25 February for unit 8 of China’s Tianwan nuclear power plant under construction in Jiangsu Province. The unit will be a VVER-1200 reactor supplied by Rosatom.

The signing of a strategic package of documents defining the main directions for the development of cooperation between Russia and China in the field of nuclear energy for the coming decades took place in June 2018.

This included construction of four units with 3+ generation VVER-1200 reactors at units 7&8 of the Tianwan NPP and units 3&4 of the Xudabao NPP in Liaoning province.

Commissioning of the Tianwan units is scheduled for 2026-2027.
