Ukraine-based Energomashspetsstal (EMSS - part of Russia’s Rosatom) said on 18 August that it will supply blanks for the reactor vessel and steam generator for the Hanhikivi 1 NPP in Finland after representatives of RAOS Project Oy, the general supplier for the Hanhikivi-1 NPP, conducted a scheduled audit of the company.
The purpose of the audit was to verify the compliance with the terms of the contract and the requirements applied in the construction of Hanhikivi 1.
Vladimir Kobzev, RAOS Project Oy's leading auditor, Svetlana Vologzhanina, RAOS Project Oy's auditor, and Draghi Srbinoski, RAOS Project Oy's technical expert, were part of the audit team at EMSS. Observers from Fennovoima Oy, the Finnish customer for the VVER-1200 unit, participated in a video conference.
As part of the audit, the areas of activity at EMSS directly related to the project implementation were inspected, including the compliance of EMSS management system with the requirements of ISO standards and regulatory documents used in the Hanhikivi 1 NPP project.
The effectiveness of corrective measures was assessed based on the comments of previous audits. The auditors also assessed the level of readiness of EMSS for the start of equipment manufacturing for the Hanhikivi-1 NPP project.
During their three-day visit, the experts examined the current state of technical documentation, planning and preparation of production, the readiness of the testing laboratory, workflow and traceability during production, nuclear safety culture and employee qualifications.
The auditors commended the high level of organisation and readiness demonstrated by EMSS, with effective technical support additionally highlighted by observers from Fennovoima. According to the auditors, the requirements management system and risk management at EMSS have made good progress. The procedures and technical instructions developed at EMSS were shown to be ready to start production.
The positive opinion expressed by the auditors will allow EMSS to participate in Hanhikivi 1 NPP construction as a supplier of blanks for the reactor vessel and steam generator.
The Hanhikivi 1 project was approved by the Finnish government in September 2014. The nuclear power plant, a 1200MW VVER-1200 reactor unit, will be located on the Hanhikivi cape in the Pyhäjoki municipality in northern Finland.
