Energoatom and Westinghouse to co-operate on new NPPs

Petr Kotin, Acting President of Ukrainian nuclear utility Energoatom and Elias Gideon, Senior Vice President of Commercial Affairs at Westinghouse Electric Company on 29 June agreed to start cooperation in the field of new power units for Ukrainian NPPs. Energoatom said the use of American AP1000 technology, in the long run, will enable Energoatom to ensure the highest level of safety, reliable operation of nuclear generation, its innovation and care for the environment.

The parties agreed to set up a joint working group to take concrete steps within a wide range of cooperation issues. Energoatom will initiate the development of draft bilateral documents and measures aimed at deepening Ukrainian-American nuclear cooperation with the support of Westinghouse.
