EIA for new Loviisa unit launched

18 June 2007

Fortum has launched an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process regarding a new, 1000-1800 MW nuclear power plant to be built at Hästholmen island, Finland near the existing Loviisa nuclear power plant.

The EIA process is required before for a possible application for a decision in principle on the Loviisa 3 nuclear power unit. In the first phase of the process, the EIA programme will be compiled for submission to the Ministry of Trade and Industry by the end of June 2007. Once the Ministry’s statement on the programme has been received, work on the actual EIA report can begin. Fortum will submit its Loviisa EIA report to the Ministry of Trade and Industry in June 2008.
