Design documentation for Brest reactor steam generators

12 July 2016

Russian machine engineering works ZiO-Podolsk will develop the design documentation for the engineering design of the steam generator for the BREST-OD-300 reactor and its experimental justification in 2016. The lead-cooled BREST-OD-300 fast neutron reactor is part of the pilot demonstration power complex planned to be built at the site of Siberian Chemical Combine by 2020.

The NN Dollezhal Research & Development Institute of Power Engineering (NIKIET), chief designer of BREST, is the customer of the documentation. According to Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom’s procurement website on 5 July, the contract with ZiO-Podolsk costs RUB10.5m (U$162,182) and should be fulfilled before 1 December.

The detailed design of BREST-OD-300 reactor was completed in 2014. In 2015-2016 the calculation and experimental justification of the reactor equipment was completed along with the in-depth justification and update of the detailed design of the reactor. One of the essential engineering solutions of BREST-OD-300 reactor is the location of steam generators immediately in the primary circuit.
