Rosatom and the Atomic Energy Commission of Costa Rica (CAEC) on 3 June signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.

The document was signed online by Rosatom Deputy Director General Nikolai Spassky and CAEC Director Esteban Picado Sandi.

The MOU creates the basis for the development of cooperation in a wide range of areas including the increase of public acceptance of nuclear technologies, development of nuclear infrastructure of the Republic of Costa Rica, and the non-energy use of nuclear technologies in industry, agriculture and healthcare. The parties agreed to have extensive face-to-face consultations on first practical steps related to the cooperation, as soon as the pandemic situation allows.
