Conference on Nuclear Power’s Future in Africa, South Africa (29-30 May 2012)

17 April 2012

A two-day conference and exhibition has been set up in Sandton, Johannesburg in May 2012 to discuss the country's plans to issue a tender to build 9600 MW of new nuclear power stations.

The conference will feature a speech from the Minister of Energy, Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, among others.

According to conference organisers Omega Investment Group, once a local review was complete, an International Atomic Energy Agency team is due to conduct an independent assessment by October 2012.

Omega said that the government decided on the budget allocation, which could be anywhere between R300 billion and R1 trillion, in February 2012.
