19 August 2015

BWXT Canada, a unit of BWX Technologies, has been contracted to provide steam generator design and manufacture components for China's Fangchenggang NPP in Guangxi province, some 45km from the border with Vietnam.

The plant is being developed by Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power (GFNP), a joint venture between China General Nuclear Power and Guangxi Investment.

BWXT will supply steam generator design for units 3 and 4 of Fangchenggang NPP under a deal with China General Nuclear Power. The company will manufacture steam generator components for GFNP's unit 3, and provide manufacturing support for unit 4 as part of a contract with Dongfang Electric and Dongfang (Guangzhou) Heavy Machinery. Dongfang Electric was earlier selected to supply steam generators for the units. BWX is scheduled to deliver the steam generator components in 2018.

The Fangchenggang NPP will feature six units with a total power generation capacity of 6,000MWe. Units 1 and 2 are CPR-1000s, units 3 and 4 are planned to be the evolutionary ACPR-1000 development. Cold testing of the nuclear island of Fangchenggang 2 was successfully completed on 15 August, according to China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company. The unit is scheduled to start up next year.
