Assystem contracted to oversee safety at Turkey’s Akkuyu

Akkuyu siteThe French engineering group Assystem has signed a six-year contract with the Akkuyu Nuklear project company, which is responsible for the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear plant in Turkey. Akkuyu is being built by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom.  

Assystem said it would oversee the construction of facilities important to the nuclear safety of the future plant. The scope will include an inspection of all structures, systems and components important for ensuring nuclear safety during construction and installation work, in accordance with the requirements of the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK).

The ceremony launching construction of Akkuyu 1 took place in April   2018. The $20 billion plant will comprise four units with Russian VVER-1200 generation 3+ pressurised water reactors. It is the first NPP project in the world, to be constructed on a build-own-operate basis. The launch Akkuyu 1 is planned for 2023.
