Areva NP has signed a contract with Southern Nuclear to provide outage services at  Farley 1&2 in Alabama for six outages over the next four years.

The scope of the work includes refuelling, steam generator and non-destructive examination services, inspection and reactor coolant pump services. The value of the contract has not been disclosed, but it will run from 2017 to 2021.

The contract is the next step in Areva's long-term relationship with the Farley plant, which provides 20% of Alabama's electricity.

Dennis Madison, site vice president at Farley said: “Areva NP has an innovative and cost-effective approach to the work they do for us, and has proven that they are prepared to make improvements in our outage performance in the quality of work completed, outage duration and overall cost.”

“Our company has worked with Areva's team over the past five years on projects throughout the fleet. Their track record of high quality work demonstrates they will be an effective partner for Farley. This is a key step for Southern Nuclear as we look to build a larger and more diverse supplier base and look for all opportunities to find cost savings.”
