22 February 2018

Canada’s Bruce Power has awarded BWXT Canada Ltd contracts worth about CAD30m ($24m) to design and supply 13 critical heat exchangers for its reactors, as part of Bruce's Life Extension Programme.

The heat exchangers are being designed and manufactured at BWXT's facility in Cambridge, Ontario, with deliveries between 2018 and 2020. BWXT Canada says the contract may add 40 jobs in its Cambridge facility. BWXT Canada is a key partner Bruce refurbishment and has already secured contracts worth more than $175m for the work.

BWXT has supplied equipment and services to the Bruce station since it opened in 1977. The Bruce Power refurbishment project is valued at CAD13bn and is intended to extend the life of the station to 2064. The plant supplies 30% of Ontario's electricity.
