ANO 1 reload goes to Framatome Cogema Fuels

29 December 2001

Arkansas Nuclear One is aiming for higher burnups at unit 1, and will use fuel from Lynchburg-based Framatome Cogema Fuels (FCF) to achieve its aim. The fuel supply contract was signed by FCF and plant owner Entergy in late 2000.

With a combination of firm and optional batches the fuel supply contract lasts through to 2008. According to FCF, to enable the fuel to reach higher burnups it will use the company’s M5 fuel rod cladding, a debris-resistant filter plate and a heavier than normal uranium loading.

Entergy issued the ‘request for proposals’ for the fuel in June 1999, and the FCF proposal was submitted on 3 September 1999.
