Siemens Power Generation is to supply three new low-pressure turbines for the Swedish nuclear power plant Forsmark 3, which will boost the plant’s output by 30MWe.
Forsmark 3 is owned and operated by Forsmarks Kraftgrupp, a subsidiary of the Vattenfall utility. Forsmarks chose turbine replacement over repairs in order to avoid the stress corrosion cracking that has occurred in the existing turbines. The modernisation work is due to take place during the scheduled refuelling outage in mid 2004. The new turbines, which will be produced at the Siemens manufacturing plant in Mülheim, Germany, are advanced disc-type rotors and will not require as many outages and spares as the previous machines.
