A two-unit nuclear power plant in Russia’s Far East Khabarovsk Territory could be located near Lake Kiotemi or the Evoron settlement, regional governor Dmitry Demeshin told the Eastern Economic Forum. He said the region has compiled a list of investment projects with a total electricity demand of 3,332 MWe and that nuclear energy facilities could also help to meet the demand.

He clarified that the region is applying for two 1,000 MWe power units and is also considering two 600 MWe units. “The 600 MWe is a new upgraded design, but not yet tested. Therefore, we are afraid this will defer deadlines, so I raised the question with the leadership of Rosatom for the supply of two 1,000 MWe units.”

He noted that the project assumes a ten-year implementation period starting in 2027 for completion in 2037. “I’m not happy with that. We are discussing this. And in a meeting chaired by President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, I will report that we are asking to shorten the deadlines.”
