The UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is offering research and development funding of up to £50,000 ($92,500) to companies and institutions to submit innovative proposals to help decommissioning and clean-up.
The money is being offered to help organisations in the early stages of developing technologies which would enhance the decommissioning process.
Neil Smart, the NDA’s nuclear engineer research co-ordinator said: “What we are looking for are original ideas that would be of benefit to decommissioning across all 20 sites.” Smart added: “There is a wealth of information on the R&D needs of our individual sites but what we do not have is a collective overview that will enable us effectively guide and direct the NDA’s programme in the medium to long-term.”
