Morgan Sindall Professional Services has won the Core Process Reference Design contract for the Legacy Cylinder Facility to be built at the Capenhurst nuclear site in the UK.
The LCF will be designed to carry out the transfer of uranium hexafluoride tails from their current ‘legacy cylinders’ into modern cylinders so that the material can be moved for further processing or long-term storage.
The Core Process focuses on the best way to transfer the materials into suitable vessels. Under the recent contract, Morgan Sindall will create a blueprint for the equipment and processes that fulfill the requirements of the LCF. Specifically, it will design the plant for the transfer of uranium hexafluoride into new cylinders, safely sampling, categorising and filtering the contents.
Commenting on the deal, Richard Webster, managing director at Morgan Sindall Professional Services said: "As a multi-disciplinary business providing engineering and construction expertise, we can ensure the project phases are intrinsically coordinated. This is especially useful in complex projects typical of nuclear facilities."
David Slater, managing director of CNS, says that Morgan Sindall understands the company’s key objectives: "The team has demonstrated technical expertise and will support us in adapting and responding to the changing demands of the nuclear industry, helping us to ensure the work carried out is done in a responsible manner."
The Core Process Reference Design phase is due for completion in May 2016 and the facility is due to open by 2020.
