India’s Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) has secured an order worth about INR 128bn ($1.5bn from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for two 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors – Kaiga NPP 5&6 in Karnataka. This is the biggest-ever order placed by NPCIL and marks MEIL’s first major step into the nuclear energy sector. The order was secured through the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) process conducted by NPCIL.
“Competing with industry giants like BHEL and L&T, MEIL was chosen for its strong technical approach and competitive pricing,” the company said. Hyderabad-based MEIL is one of India’s leading infrastructure companies, with a wide-ranging presence across sectors including power, water, hydrocarbons, irrigation, oil & rigs, defence, transport, compressed gas distribution, and electric mobility.
