It will be impossible to close down units 1 and 2 of Bulgaria’s Kozloduy nuclear plant until the end of the year 2004, the executive director of the National Electricity Company Ivan Hinovski claimed in a special seminar.
The construction of a new nuclear plant to replace the old units could start as early as 2006-2008 but the money is yet to be provided. A build and operate scheme is being considered as an option for sponsoring the project.
Representatives of the EBRD are expected in July to continue the negotiations over the memorandum which set out the requirements for the decommissioning of the first four blocs as soon as possible.
