The second large-scale cylindrical section of the inner containment vessel (steel lined module 2) has been installed at the nuclear island reactor building of unit 1 at China’s Zhaoyuan NPP in Shandong province China. General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) said the lifting process was smooth and orderly, and that safety and quality were controlled.
The module weighing 157 tonnes was lifted by a 2,000-tonne crawler crane. After lifting, rotating, walking with load, hooking and other actions, the process was completed smoothly brining the elevation of the inner containment to 6.8 metres.
The Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Construction Management Team benefitted from the experience, feedback and good practices of the successful lifting of the steel lining module 1 and the pit concrete module. They analysed the on-site meteorological information, and overcame the impact of adverse low temperature conditions.
The site is planned to house six Hualong One reactors with a total installed capacity of about 7,200 MWe. It will generate 50 TWh a year, enough to cover household electricity needs of approximately 5m people. It will avoid the use of 15.27m tonnes of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 46.2m tonnes a year.
