Within weeks the investors chosen to undertake the completion of the third unit of Romania’s Cernavoda plant will be announced.

Ioan Rotaru, director general of Cernavoda operators, Nuclearelectrica, and president of the Romanian Nuclear Energy Association, made it clear to delegates at a NucNet seminar in Bucharest that Romania remains committed to the completion of the plant.

Cernavoda hosts five 700MWe Candu 6 units, unit 1 is operational, unit 2 under construction while 3, 4 and 5 remain under maintenance.

Cernavoda’s unit 2 is scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2007 and it is hoped that unit 3 will also be connected by 2011.
