AREVA and Westinghouse have both won contracts to supply nuclear fuel to the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland during 2016-2019. Westinghouse has also announced it will deliver nuclear fuel assemblies to Gundremmingen and Emsland plants in Germany between 2016 and 2018.
Under the contract with TVO, AREVA will supply four reloads of its ATRIUM boiling water reactor fuel for Olkiluoto unit 1. The fuel assemblies will initially be the ATRIUM 10XM design, but AREVA says that TVO plans to upgrade, as early as 2018, to the more advanced ATRIUM 11 design. The AREVA fuel assemblies will be manufactured in Lingen, Germany.
A separate deal will also see Westinghouse Electric Sweden supply its SVEA-96 Optima 3 fuel assemblies for Olkiluoto 2, TVO says.
In separate news, Westinghouse has been selected by German utilities RWE and E.On to manufacture and deliver nuclear fuel assemblies for two boiling-water reactors at Gundremmingen and the Emsland pressurised water reactor, both in Germany.
The contract includes two fuel deliveries for each nuclear power plant between 2016 and 2018, as well as two optional deliveries in later years, Westinghouse said. Westinghouse will manufacture the fuel at its facility in Västerås, Sweden.
