The six power units of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) are again not planned to be used in heating the satellite city of Energodar in the 2025-2026 heating season, ZNPP Communications Director Evgenia Yashina told TASS. “In the new heating period, the participation of power units of the ZNPP in the heating of Energodar is not expected. Let me remind you that now all six units of the ZNPP are in a state of cold shutdown,” she said.

She recalled that during the 2024-2025 heating season the city of Energodar was provided with heat for the first time in winter without switching any ZNPP power units to hot shutdown mode.

At the same time, the mayor of Energodar, Maxim Pukhov, said in his Telegram channel that preparations for winter in the city are underway. Resource supply organisations, management companies, and social facilities operate strictly according to approved plans. And the municipal commission monitors the readiness of heating networks, heat sources and consumers, he noted.

He emphasised that in the coming heating season the main emphasis will be on the use of block-modular gas boiler houses, the installation of which “became a key decision in the life support of the city after the ZNPP was completely shutdown. “They are mobile, if necessary, they can be painlessly dismantled and transported …. They are quite reliable, we don’t see any particular complaints about their work,” Pukhov said.

Since September 2022, all ZNPP units have been shut down. Five of them were previously in a cold shutdown during the heating season and one was transferred to hot shutdown – that is, steam generators were accelerated to supply heat to the residents of Energodar and to station facilities in cold weather.
